Strokers 2 in Tampa was again the host location for second part of the FL State
Championships. Last week was the Amateur event. This week saw the Open event, which attracted some World Class players
for the $2500 Added prize money plus an entry into the $40,000 Steve Mizerak event to be held in November by the Seminole tribe of Florida.
Some notable players in attendance were American #1 player Corey Deuel, Mike Davis, Tony Crosby, Richard Broumpton, John Ditoro and Tommy Kennedy, just to mention a few.
The day Kicked off with the Player of the Year award ceremony, in which Julio Aquino was officially crowned the KF Open
Player of the Year and received a $500 bonus, a high end KF Custom Cue with Vigor Shaft, and also one of the beautiful
trophies from A Touch of Glass (Javier Chirino). Second in the points was James Roberts,
who also received a KF Custom Cue, and 3rd was Jason Richko, who received a KF Custom
Cue as well.
Some notable results in the early rounds saw Richard Broumpton coming out strong, beating Mike Davis 9-7 and then following it up with a demolition of Tony Crosby 9-3 before running into Corey Deuel and being sent to the one loss
side 9-7.
Deuel would go on to win his next two matches to take the hotseat with wins over Jerry Calderon 9-5 and
Han Berber 9-6.

Corey Deuel, Jose Del Rio (room owner), Mike Davis
The event drew 7 lady players, with Borana Andoni drawing some attention as she made her way to the 4th round of the winners side, and ended up finishing one match away from coming back Sunday to the final 8.
Mike Davis was a man on a mission. After taking a first round loss he would win 9 straight matches on the one loss side, which would include wins over Nicole Winters 7-4, Richie Richeson 7-6, Todd Anderson 7-6, Dave Ross 7-5, and Julio Aquino 7-5 to get through to Sunday where he would avenge his loss to Broumpton 9-3 and follow it up with wins over Louis Altes 9-3, Jerry Claderon 9-5 and Han Berber 9-7 to reach the final to play Corey Deuel. While all this was going on Corey Deuel had spent most of his time as pool
promoter. Deuel recently announced that he was going to host the 1st $30,000 Added US 8 Ball
Invitational. For more information on this event check out http://universalpooleague.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=35&Itemid=92
The Final would be a nervy start for both players, with Mike Davis taking advantage of Deuel's mistakes to take a 5-1 lead and never look back. Deuel would make a fight of it to get back to 7-5, but with the alternate break format, Davis was always in control and would run out with an 11-7 win and be crowned
FL State 9-Ball Champion for 2009.
The KF Cue Tour would like to thank Jose Del Rio, Strokers room owner, for hosting another great event. This was a great ending to the KF
